Most quartz watches have very low power consumption, so the battery generally lasts a long time, typically 1 to 3 years, depending on the watch's functions. However, there are watches, such as some Casio watches, with batteries that can last up to 10 years! Even so, every watch battery eventually needs replacing. That’s where Uhr.com comes in. Our extensive range of watch batteries includes the right one for every type of watch. Simply enter the brand and code found on the back of your watch, and we will show you the batteries compatible with your watch.

When you want to replace your watch battery, it is important to know which battery it requires. Our website lists the original battery type in the watch specifications under the ‘movement information’ heading. The watch’s user manual usually also specifies the correct battery.
Our database contains information on over 450,000 quartz watches. However, in rare cases, your specific watch model may not be listed. In that event, please check the user manual to see which battery is required. If you no longer have the manual, please contact the watch manufacturer.
In principle, you can replace a watch battery yourself. Open the case back. Remove the old battery (using tweezers if necessary) and insert the new one. The rubber gasket that ensures water resistance may shift or dry out; apply a little silicone grease to it or replace it entirely. Then, close the case back.
Please note: If you attempt to replace the battery yourself while the watch is still under warranty, you risk voiding the warranty, and water resistance can no longer be guaranteed. It may therefore be wiser to have the battery replaced by a jeweler or watchmaker. Before you know it, you will have a fully functional watch on your wrist that is ready for long-term use.
Manufacturers use different numbers or names for the same type of battery. That is why we list the various type number designations for all the batteries we sell, for example: R371 / SR920SW / SG6 / AG6. This means the Renata R371 battery is identical to the SR920SW, SG6, and AG6.
Batteries with "SW" at the end of the code are designed for basic analog watches that only have hands; they deliver a very low current over a long period. Batteries with "W" at the end of the code are designed for watches with additional functions, such as a chronograph (stopwatch), alarm, or backlight.
Be cautious with unbranded batteries from discount stores; they often lose their charge quickly and carry a higher risk of leaking.
At Uhr.com, watch batteries cost between €5 and €10, depending on the type of battery.
You can find information on the watch battery's lifespan under normal use on our website in the watch specifications, under ‘movement information’. The lifespan of a watch battery (averaging one to three years) depends primarily on the watch's power consumption and quality. Additional features such as a second hand, chronograph, alarm, or backlight consume significantly more energy than a basic model with only hour and minute hands. The age and condition of the movement also play a major role; dried-out oil and dirt increase internal friction, forcing the motor to work harder and causing the battery to drain faster. Finally, the battery's chemical composition (with lithium lasting longer than silver oxide), the quality of the battery brand, exposure to extreme temperatures, and the rate of natural self-discharge all determine how soon the battery will need replacing.
A solar watch does not contain a standard disposable battery but rather a special rechargeable cell, such as a lithium-ion or manganese-titanium coin cell (with codes like CTL920 or MT621), commonly used by brands like Seiko, Citizen, and Casio. A built-in solar cell beneath the dial converts light into electricity to continuously charge this cell; this results in an extremely long battery life, often requiring replacement only after ten to twenty years.
It is crucial never to install a standard, non-rechargeable silver-oxide or lithium battery in the movement; if the watch is exposed to light and attempts to charge it, a standard battery could overheat, leak, or explode, causing permanent damage to the watch. We advise against replacing the battery of a solar watch yourself. Always consult a qualified watchmaker for this service.
Make sure you have the right tools to open the watch without scratching it. You can find these tools on our accessories page. For a screw-on case back, you need a special wrench; for a snap-on case back, a simple case opener suffices.
Most watch batteries sold by Uhr.com are made by Renata. This is a reliable Swiss brand; their batteries are long-lasting and ideally suited for use in watches. It is no coincidence that renowned watch brands such as TAG Heuer and Breitling use Renata batteries in their timepieces.
Silver oxide (SR series) batteries are the most common type for standard watches (usually 1.55 volts). They provide constant voltage and rarely leak. Lithium (CR series) batteries are flat, wide coin cells (usually 3 volts) often found in digital watches, sports watches, or smartwatches. Avoid alkaline (LR series) batteries for watches. They lose voltage quickly and are prone to leaking, which can permanently damage your watch.
